Roots from da Upsetta

Super Ape - Lee Perry & the Upsetters
classic lee "scrattch" perry roots record. One of my favorites. and a good one to put on right before you go to bed. Heres what Gary Simons has to say about it in Super Scratch,
"Super Ape is the record that started me on a mission over twenty years ago to discover everything I could about Lee Perry. From the incredible cover art showing a King Kong-like ape with an uprooted tree in one hand and a large smouldering spliff in the other, to the superb musicianship of the Upsetters. Super Ape conjurs up a pyschadelic jungle of sound, with reggae making a strong African connection. At this time the Upsetters included the (almost) subsonic rumble of Boris Gardener's bass with Michael Richards or Benbow on drums, augmented by the indefatigable Earl 'Chinna' Smith on guitar. The cover rightly proclaims "Dub it up Blacker than Dread." Inside is a deep, warm, spacious mix stuffed with exotic sounds to be discovered over repeated listening. The production is dense and mulit-layered, but each element (voice or instrument) is completely disticnt and essential. Extremely accesible and commercially produced, it is also a timeless record of pride and joy in roots culture and exemplifies all of the most transcendent qualities in music. Super Ape is an artistic triumph with Lee "Scratch" Perry working at his peak. To my ears, this is his masterpiece."

Heart of the Congos

Here is a great album I just copped from my record store... It's produced by Lee Perry under his "Black Art" lable in '77. I would describe it as reggae roots gospel, and it's got a righteous vibe all the way through. I just saw a vintage copy going for $250 at an online aution site (wish mine was an original pressing) so if you see it while diggin, buy it! I dig it, so DL the damn thing and love it. Here you go.

RJD2

RJD2 has been one of my favs for some time now. Here's three albums to take into consideration. The first tow are my favorite of all his records, Dead Ringer and Since We Last Spoke. The third is the Silver Album, which is all RJD2 remixes of Jay Z's Black Album. I don't know if you all are into Jay z's thing, but RJ's beats are clever, and it's worth listening too. Oh one last thing, I recomend that you do NOT bother with RJ's newest album, "The Third Hand", if thou art looking for that classic RJD2 sound. It's more of a RJ meets indie soft rock type sound, which is probably really good if you're into that kinda scene. Issall good tho! RJ is still the man, and I def support him in trying out new sounds and exploring new ideas.

dilla grooves

Ive been feeling this track lately, i like how dilla can take a sample that is already notorious in the producer community and still flip it freshly and make it interesting to listen to.
The track is the pharcyde's running (remix).

Gregory Isaacs

Gregory Isaacs is a dope reggae singer. His music always puts me in such a good mood, it's the perfect soundtrack for a beach trip. He does a cover of "House of the Rising Sun" on Pardon Me, which is kinda cool, so have a listen and enjoy.

Shades of Blue

One of my favorite producers Madlib, remixed a wonderful selection of old jazz joints on this album. This record is super chill, through it on and groove out to this.
